i've been an avid hair straightener most of my life....i've been through many, the reason yours isn't heating up is either because it's messed up or try a different plug in, sometimes that helps....the best straightener ive seen that is sold wherever straighteners are sold and it has lasted me about 2 years and goin strong is a revlon ceramic..around $20.00...the heating space on it is really wide so it heats more hair and youll be done in half the time...no need to go over it twice!

Are you talking about a flattening iron? If so, you may have a break in the wire in the cord or a short in the heating system. It may also just be old and the switch may not work anymore.

Go to a Sally Beauty Supply store and get an iron with a temperature control. You also should look for a cord that swivels so it does not become tangled up when you use it. The plates (parts that get hot) should be smooth and not "grab" the hair.

I like a ceramic iron. The ceramic heats evenly and won't get "hot spots" that can damage the hair. A decent iron will run about 20-30 $'s. A good one 40-60 $'s. A great one 80 plus.

the same thing happened to mine. i think straighteners just don't work after a while. could be the heating element. If you are going to invest in a straightner, keep in mind you'll probably have to end up buying one about once a year. My new straightener is a Remington Wet2Straight. It works great! you can use it on wet or dry hair and the setttings go all the way from 1-30. good luck
