Leaving Hair Straightener in too long?

What happens if you leave a chemical straightener in your hair too long? I know it will probably help the hair get straighter, but is it a possibility that it will severely burn the hair? Also, I'm talking about the cheap weak straighteners from places such as Walmart.

buy a better straightener, first of all....

ok it will damage your hair eventually. it's ok if you leave it in for about 10 sec, but try not to keep it in for too long, your hair can dry out, burn, or get split ends...or all of them. i recommend Avlon straighteners. i have one and i use it every dday.

if u leave it in it can totally fry your hair. if the plates are ceramic it's better and if u used a serum than thats better too. dont leave it on for a very long time bc it will TOTALLY fry your hair,.

I understand that money may be an issue and you want to straighten your hair yourself, but buy a Relaxer kit. They come with pre- treatments to prevent breakage and neutralizing PH balanced shampoo which stops the straightner from further straightening your hair after you've washed the chemical out.

If left in too long, you can suffer from chemical burns which can be severe and lead to hair loss.

Yes, it will burn the hair. The hair strands will be dry and more brittle than they should plus may have split ends sooner than usual. After each shampoo, use plenty of hair conditioner WITH moisturizer; leave it in hair minimum of 3 minutes prior to rinsing conditioner out. In a couple weeks to 1 month, may need a trim to eliminate the new split ends.
